As many of you already know, on Dec 13, 2008 Lama Ole Nydahl has visited Żerdno Retreat Center! That unique event gathered dozens of friends from all over Poland. Although the visit was quite short, it was and still is very important to us, because Lama Ole, as well as many other new persons got a chance to see this beautiful place. Lama Ole has visited us while traveling between his lectures in Poznań and Sopot. Altogether, with a large group of friends we have walked around the entire property. Lama was clearly pleased and liked the land very much. After the walk we had a meditation and thereby we have inaugurated another centre in the network of Karma Kagyu centres. That is how the transmission reached Żerdno officially! In the nearest future, we do not plan larger investments or activities. We just want to wait until the other Retreat Centres in Poland finish their constructions. However, if only an initiative to organize small tent weekend courses appears, we will arrange them with joy, having in mind Lama’s words from his New Year’s letter: „meditate and whenever possible keep the highest view”. In summer 2008 we organized the first meditation course with traveling teachers from Poland, Germany and Hungary. Between 28th June and 6th July we held over 70 friends from all over Poland. This event went down in the history of Żerdno Buddhist Retreat Centre already. For a couple of summer days, among beautiful meadows, forests and hills that form the landscape of Żerdno, we all have built the mandala of this place. And the program of the course was absolutely OUTSTANDING. We invited 6 (!) traveling teachers: Zsuzsa Koszegi, Marcin Barański, Maria Przyjemska, Tadeusz Uchto, Daniel Wysocki and Wojtek Tracewski gave lectures and we are very grateful to them for sharing rich knowledge and experience with us. Luckily, just before the course we managed to connect water and power to the plot, so we could ensure excellent cuisine and proper sanitary facilities. We also arranged fine infrastructure: we built Gompa, cookhouse and canteen. Although it was a camp type of infrastructure, our moods were great and the collective effort provided ideal conditions for meditations, lectures and fantastic time spent together with friends.
